Project 7: The Kist (Blanket Chest)
All the instruction you need to make a solid wood Scottish Kist (blanket chest) using hand tools and traditional woodworking techniques.
The comprehensive colour manual with step by step instructions allows you to build your own traditional Scottish kist(blanket chest) in quality Scottish wood.
Traditional Scottish Kists always had a lock, as papers and personal possessions were stored in them. They often had a string attached inside the top for ties. The carrying handles were often blacksmith made in wrought iron and painted black.
More recently, kists have been used for storing blankets and are called blanket chests as a result.
This woodworking project is aimed at intermediate level; we recommend that inexperienced woodworkers complete one of our first three projects (the creepie stool, the corner unit or the bread box) before tackling the kist (blanket chest) or more advanced furniture making projects.
