The spurtle set project manual provides an introduction to wood turning by way of 'turning out' some basic domestic items in hardwood. Pine can be turned but these kitchen tools will have a heavy work load; by the way, for best results pine ought to be turned at high speeds (2500-4500 revs upwards!).

When building your spurtle, we recommend that you choose from beech, lime or sycamore as these are close grained timbers traditionally used for wood turning.
